Our 10th race location in the Impact Marathon Series
Times a race like this has happened here.
People call the Congo home. Few outsiders ever see it
Say "the Congo" and most people picture a headline. Conflict, crisis, a place to look away from. That picture is rooted in some semblance of reality, but it is a sliver of the truth, and it is the least interesting thing about the country.
Here is the rest.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the largest nation in sub-Saharan Africa, built around a river so vast it is second only to the Amazon.
Its rainforest is the second largest on the planet, and unlike the Amazon it still breathes in more carbon than it breathes out.
The cobalt in the phone or laptop you are reading this on was very likely dug from Congolese ground.
By the measure of what lies beneath it, this is one of the richest countries on earth. By the measure of what its people are paid for it, one of the poorest.
That gap is the whole story of what has drawn Impact Marathon to work with the most impactful charities in the nation - to fully work on a race that tells this story more powerfully than any news article or film.
We want to run through it. Along the river, under the canopy, in a country that has hosted almost no race like this, ever.
This is not to gawp but to see it properly, to run somewhere that asks everything of you, and to do real work alongside people living beyond the headline.
Simply put, Impact Marathon is setting up races in the places where we can use the power of running to have the deepest impact possible.
That is why the Congo.
And that is why this race.

Put your name down and you're on the inside from today. The backstory, the build, the first films from the ground, the route as we draw it, and first pick of places when they open
Congo Impact Marathon 2028 is a small group, kept small on purpose.
Those who are first on the list will be first in line.
